About me

I'm Pete, 63 years of age, divorced, with three daughters and two foster sons. I have dual British and Finnish citizenship; I have lived in Finland for over 40 years.

I graduated with a commendation in Childhood education and have diplomas in both teaching and as a commissionaire.

After over 25 years of teaching the viola, English, maths and physics, I suffered serious illness and  then returned to school work for 15 years as a caretaker and IT support giver.

In December 2020, I took early retirement and moved to a lakeside wood cabin, in the middle of a central Finland forest.

My hobbies, in addition to being a self confessed foodie, are walking with my 13 year old border collie Tessa, foraging, amateur radio (Oh2euu), gardening, fishing, reading and music making... orchestra, string quartet and church choir. UPDATE: Tessa died of a brain tumour 20.10.2021 aged 14 years. I now have a 5 year old "rescued" dog - Amur.

I also have a passion for my lakeside sauna, which I use every other day.

I live a slightly solitary life, the nearest neighbours being 2 km away and the nearest shops 26km away, but I am not lonely. I am in daily contact with my daughters, brother and best friend Darryl who lives in Melbourne.

My youngest daughter Anna, lives just 45 mins. away and we see each other and my 2 month old granddaughter Kerttu at least once a week. UPDATE: Anna and family moved back to Helsinki, May 2022. I now have three garndchildren.

My eldest daughter Sofia, has a four year old girl Aurora, but they live near Helsinki, some three hours drive away.

I heat my home with wood, so for 8 months of the year, that's a daily "chore" - which I actually enjoy.

Since Covid and moving here, I have not yet found my place in a (Lutheran) congregation, but I have an active prayer life. UPDATE: I currently attend both Keuruu's Lutheran church and Virtain's Pentecostal church.

Lost the beard since then!
